Mauritius is situated at approximately 2000 kilometers to the South Eastern coast of Africa and lies East of Madagascar on 20 S, 57.5 E. The central part of the island is 600 metres above sea level and the average maximum day-time temperature varies from about 20c in August to about 30c in February. Along the coastal areas the temperatures are generally 3 to 5 degrees higher. The western and northern regions are warmer and relatively drier than the East and the South.
